This panel addressed the multiple visions of Lusophone cultures and versions and variations of the Portuguese language, and how such differences are rendered in translation. Our panelists work with the literatures of different countries and regions—from Portugal and Brazil to Mozambique and Macau—and spoke about their experiences, addressing topics such as the differences in spoken language across the Lusophone world; differences between written and spoken language; and the regional and cultural differences seen within such a large country as Brazil. Some of the panelists are members of the Portuguese-English Literary Translators Association (PELTA) and spoke briefly about the organization, its purposes, and resources it offers to translators at different stages in their careers.
